Nevin Lawson couldn’t sleep the night before his first NFL start.
He was too excited.
He recalled the first time he picked up a football in Lauderhill when he was 7 or 8, the long hours he spent training at Joseph C. Carter Park in Sunrise, the seasons at Piper High School and the extended time he spent away from home while playing at Utah State. Lawson’s dream of starting in the NFL had finally come true.
Then, in the third quarter of that game, a 24-7 loss to the Carolina Panthers, someone stepped on the Detroit Lions rookie’s left foot.
Lawson knew, right away, something was wrong.
